Indeed, Salary.com Inc. reports that in November 2009, an Organizational Development Manager's median salary in the United States was $99,419. If you already have a degree in management, you can obtain your PhD while--in most instances--continuing to work in your current position.
- Benedictine University offers a Doctorate in Organizational Development, one of the first graduate-level organizational development programs in the United States. The program is designed for students who have jobs or experience in organizational development or a related field such as human resources.
Students are accepted into the program based on the quality and depth of their work and length of employment in the field. You must also have a master's degree in organizational development or related area. The program takes three years to complete. The courses include Global Environmental Trends, Organization Strategy, Philosophy of Science and Qualitative and Quantitative Methods of research. You will be required to complete a dissertation.

- University of Louisville offers a PhD in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development with five specializations: P-12 administration, postsecondary administration, sport administration, human resource development and evaluation. The program prepares graduates for research positions in their area of specialty.
You will be required to complete a minimum of 90 semester hours for the PhD. You can transfer units from previous graduate work. However, you must complete at least 45 hours at the University of Louisville. Your specialization will account for 42 of the total 90 hours. Twelve hours of core courses required of all students include Introductory Doctoral Seminar, an internship in your specialty and Problem Analysis I and II.

- Webster University offers a Doctor of Management (DMgt) degree designed to prepare graduates for advanced careers in organizational development, leadership and research. You will be required to complete 36 credits and a nine-credit doctoral project.
To be accepted into the program, you must have a minimum of three years experience as a manager and a master's degree in a management-related field, including a master's level statistics course.
Enrollment is limited, and you must first go through an application screening process. Next you'll be interviewed by the admission committee and then informed if you've been accepted into the program. Courses include Statistical Analysis, Management Systems Redesign, Managing in the Global Marketplace and Organizational Development and Change.
